Empowerment through Knowledge

The world today is facing unprecedented social, economic and physical insecurity. From climate change to record-high forced displacement, the rise in authoritarian politics, and the development of policies which restrict and burden the basic human rights of vulnerable communities. As disconnected from our real lives as these issues might seem, they all affect the lives and well-being of the human population and will inevitably influence the quality of our personal lives and that of future generations.

We all play a role in our global ecosystem. Although we might not all have the skills and ability to create the change we need to see in the world, we can educate ourselves by learning about these issues from the people who do. Anthropology has the incredible ability to highlight the lived experiences of real people, to transport any person into their lives, while also highlighting solutions to issues which affect the quality of human life.

This blog aims to highlight the stories of anthropologists who are working with disadvantaged and marginalised communities around the world and to celebrate their work.
